ASRM Hosts Capitol Hill Briefing for Policymakers & Congressional Staff to Hear From Providers & Patients About Importance of IVF Access, Realities and Limitations of Restorative Reproductive Medicine
Event Featured Welcome Remarks from Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Personal Stories from Fertility Patients, and Perspectives of Physicians, Reproductive Endocrinologists, and Policy Experts
September 16, 2025
For immediate release
“People struggling with infertility deserve the highest level of care possible and access to a complete range of reproductive health care options, including IVF,” said Micah Hill, DO, President of the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology (SART) and a member of the ASRM Board of Directors. “The practice of restorative reproductive medicine is a re-labeling of what physicians already do for their patients, and what is even more alarming is that its promotion is driven by political, religious, and ideological opposition to IVF itself. As physicians who have taken an oath to serve those in our care, our patients also deserve to know the truth about what restorative reproductive medicine can and cannot do for them. For many, IVF remains the best or only option to grow their families, which is why it should be affordable and accessible to all.”
The event featured a full lineup of speakers, panels, and participants, including:
- Opening by Sean Tipton, ASRM’s Chief Policy & Advocacy Officer
- Welcoming remarks from Rep. Debbie Wasserman Shultz
- Provider panel on how RRM is already a part of the existing standard of care, and why an RRM-only approach is a disservice to patients, featuring:
- Georgette Kerr, ASRM
- Micah Hill, DO, President of the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology (SART) and member of ASRM Board of Directors
- Jamie Kuhlman, PhD, Infertility and Maternal Mental Health Psychologist, Courageous Path Consulting
- Benjamin Peipert, MD, Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility Fellow, University of Pennsylvania
- Jessica Hajjar, Patient Advocate & Storyteller
- Policy panel on legislative efforts to ensure access to a full range of fertility treatments, including IVF, featuring:
- Emma Berens, ASRM’s Federal Government Affairs Manager
- Shauna Rust, Health Policy Advisory to Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA)
- Stephanie DeLuca, Policy Advisor to Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-IL)
- Jordan Nasif, Legislative Assistant to Rep. Sara Jacobs (D-CA)
- Alise Powell, RESOLVE Director of Government Affairs
- Closing remarks by:
- Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL)
- Becca O’Connor, Director of ASRM’s Center for Policy & Leadership
