Advocacy in Action: March 2025
Date: March 26, 2025
Author: ASRM
Welcome to ASRM’s Advocacy in Action, where we give an overview of what our Government Affairs team has been working on, summarize relevant federal and state legislation, and highlight the advocacy and outreach efforts of our members. We are so thankful for the advocacy of our members; please get in touch with the Office of Public Affairs at publicaffairs@asrm.org for more information on ways to get involved.
- RESOLVE’s Virtual Federal Advocacy Day in partnership with ASRM takes place May 20! Despite its wide usage and broad support, the practice of reproductive medicine is often misunderstood by politicians and the public. You can help change that. Learn more and sign up here.
- Dr. George Hill joined the Office of Public Affairs and Tennessee members for a town hall to discuss HB 945/SB 793, a redundant bill that would restrict the practice of IVF in the state. The legislation has since failed in committee. Thank you to our incredible advocates on the ground for their work to ensure this harmful bill did not pass!
- The Office of Public Affairs hosted a town hall briefing Oregon members on HB 2959, a bill that would mandate coverage for IVF and fertility treatments for many across the state, and shared what can be done to support the legislation’s passage. If you are in Oregon, use our simple Action Alert system to send your representative a message urging them to vote YES on HB 2959!
- ASRM’s Center for Policy and Leadership (CPL) published a white paper on the oversight of IVF in the US and abroad. Read it in full here.
- The CPL released two “Just the Facts” papers, one on the safety and effectiveness of IVF and one detailing IVF policy priorities. Find “Just the Facts: The Safety of In Vitro Fertilization” here and “Just the Facts: IVF Policy Priorities” here.
- CPL director Becca O’Connor attended the Institute for Health Law, Bioethics, and Policy’s first annual symposium held at the Touro University Law Center.
- ASRM proudly endorsed Kentucky Physicians for Reproductive Freedom as they called to repeal abortion bans across the state. Restrictive health care laws have disastrous effects on all Kentuckians. Complex and personal health care decisions should be between patients and providers.
- The first Action Alert challenge leaderboard is up! Don't see your name? Keep engaging with the Action Alerts we send to members via emails to move up in the ranks! Learn more about the challenge here.
- ASRM has been monitoring with concern the cuts to a number of critical federal programs and agencies relied upon by many of our members. If these actions have affected you and you would like to let us know how we can provide support, please fill out this survey.
If you would like to support us in our fight against restrictive reproductive legislation, please visit our Advocacy in Action Fund.
