CDC’s Assisted Reproductive Technology Surveillance and Research Team
The Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) Surveillance and Research Team was established in the CDC’s Division of Reproductive Health as a result of the Fertility Clinic Success Rate and Certification Act of 1992. For over 30 years, this small and dedicated group managed the Congressionally mandated National ART Surveillance System and used strategic partnerships, creative analytic solutions, and effective health communications to improve clinical practice, advance knowledge of ART effectiveness and safety, reduce health disparities, and save healthcare costs. The CDC’s ART Team partnered with ASRM and SART to effectively promote single embryo transfer and reduce multiple births in the United States, leading to improved maternal and child health outcomes. In addition to publishing national ART reports, the ART Team collaborated with numerous reproductive health researchers, mentored students and fellows, and contributed to hundreds of scientific papers on various aspects of infertility and ART. With a strong background in public health and epidemiology, CDC’s ART Team promoted the best practices of ART surveillance around the world. In collaboration with global experts, they published the first comprehensive book on ART surveillance and using data to monitor treatment effectiveness and safety, improve quality of care, develop health policy, and provide accurate information to infertility patients worldwide.
The ART Team includes Sarah Mardovich, Yujia Zhang, Dmitry Kissin, Amy Jewett, Carol DeSantis, and Mithi Sunderam (not pictured).
