Prof. David K. Gardner
Professor David K. Gardner, AM, FAA, is a pioneer in human IVF. He is the Scientific Director of Melbourne IVF, the Scientific, Innovation and Research Director for Virtus Health, and a Distinguished Professorial Fellow in the School of BioSciences, University of Melbourne, Australia.Dr. Gardner completed his PhD (1987) at the University of York, with Henry Leese. In 1988, he moved to Harvard Medical School to work with John Biggers, after which he moved to Monash, Australia, in 1989 to work with Alan Trounson. In 1997, he became the Scientific Director of the Colorado Centre for Reproductive Medicine in Denver, where his work on human embryo culture conditions and blastocyst transfer revolutionized how human IVF is performed today.
In 2007, he was appointed Professor and Head of the Zoology Department at the University of Melbourne and promoted to the level of Distinguished Professor, School of BioSciences in 2018. In 2016, he became the Scientific Director of Melbourne IVF.
In 2017, in recognition of his many significant contributions to reproductive sciences, Dr. Gardner was elected as a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science (FAA), and in 2022, he was awarded the Order of Australia (AM) for his significant contributions to reproductive medicine and education.
He has published over 340 papers and chapters and edited 18 books on IVF and embryology, culminating in over 40,000 citations and an H index of 108, making him one of the highest-cited scientists in reproductive medicine and biology in the world today.

Carlos Simón Excellence in Translational Research Award

The Carlos Simón Excellence in Translational Research Award honors an ASRM Member who has demonstrated originality and creativity through discovery and made a substantial contribution to the field of Reproductive Medicine resulting in changes or improved clinical practice.
Nominations must include:
The recipient will be selected by the Executive Committee. Recipients will travel to the ASRM Congress (paid for by ASRM) and be recognized by name during the Carlos Simón Research Symposia. Additionally, the awardee will receive a certificate to recognize the award and be invited to give a lecture on their innovative work.
The Carlos Simón Excellence in Translational Research Award honors an ASRM Member who has demonstrated originality and creativity through discovery and made a substantial contribution to the field of Reproductive Medicine resulting in changes or improved clinical practice.
Nominations must include:
- A letter of nomination describing the research that led to discovery and improved clinical practice
- The nominee’s curriculum vitae
- Summary of research and clinical accomplishments in reproductive medicine and/or related fields
- Letters of support from at least two (2) additional members of the Society
The recipient will be selected by the Executive Committee. Recipients will travel to the ASRM Congress (paid for by ASRM) and be recognized by name during the Carlos Simón Research Symposia. Additionally, the awardee will receive a certificate to recognize the award and be invited to give a lecture on their innovative work.

The recipient will have demonstrated innovation, leadership, and other scholarly accomplishments that have a lasting impact on advancing clinical care, the frontiers of research in reproductive sciences, and the education of the scientific community.

Ira And Ester Rosenwaks New Investigator Award
This award recognizes exceptional clinical/basic research contributions in reproductive sciences published within 10 years post residency/postdoc/fellowship. It requires original, independent and impactful research contributions, considering conceptual breakthroughs, impact on allied fields, and development of new methodologies.
Kavoussi Family Outstanding Teacher Award
The Kavoussi Family Outstanding Teacher Award honors an ASRM member who is recognized as an outstanding educator in undergraduate, graduate, postgraduate, professional or patient education in the area of basic and/or clinical reproductive biology and medicine.
Suheil J. Muasher, MD, Distinguished Service Award
This award honors individuals or organizations, whether ASRM members or not, for distinguished service to the ASRM, reproductive medicine, and patients. Selection is based on contributions to scientific, leadership, organizational, political, or societal service, including previous nominees.
