Paracentesis VS Culdocentesis Codes
Most of our paracentesis procedures are performed via a transvaginal approach. Should these be appropriately coded as ultrasound-guided abdominal paracentesis (CPT 49083), given that the needle and catheter are ultimately placed within the abdominal cavity, or would culdocentesis (CPT 57020) be the moe accurate code due to the vaginal approach?
