ASRM announces support for HOPE with Fertility Services Act
Statement attributable to Elizabeth Ginsburg, MD
President-Elect, American Society for Reproductive Medicine
For Immediate Release
Washington, DC – “The American Society for Reproductive Medicine is proud to endorse the HOPE with Fertility Services Act (HR 8821). This legislation will ensure that the discrimination against those who need medical care to build their families will come to an end.
Far too many Americans have health insurance which does not include coverage for fertility care. Under this bill, if a health insurance plan provides care for obstetrical coverage, it must also provide care to assist those who require medical assistance to build their families.
In an era of political polarization, we are thrilled to see bi-partisan legislation to enhance access to fertility care. We are grateful to Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer (R-OR), Rep. Zach Nunn (R-IA), Rep. Susan Wild (D-PA), and Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) for being able to find common ground on this important topic. We hope their example will inspire their colleagues to move this bill quickly to final passage.”
For almost a century, the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) has been the global leader in multidisciplinary reproductive medicine research, ethical practice, and education.
