Kavoussi Family Outstanding Teacher Award

The Award is made possible through an educational endowment from K.M. Kavoussi, M.D., Homa Kavoussi, Shahryar Kavoussi, M.D., M.P.H., Mehryar Kavoussi, J.D., Parviz Kavoussi, M.D., and Austin Fertility & Reproductive Medicine/Westlake IVF.

The Kavoussi Family Outstanding Teacher Award honors an ASRM member who is recognized as an outstanding educator in undergraduate, graduate, postgraduate, professional or patient education in the area of basic and/or clinical reproductive biology and medicine.

Nominations may be submitted by members of the Society to by June 3, 2022.
Each nomination must include:
  • A letter of nomination
  • The nominee’s curriculum vitae,
  • Summary of educational accomplishments and awards in the field of reproductive medicine and biology
  • Letters of support from at least two (2) additional members of the Society.

ASRM members may nominate themselves. Candidates must have been a member of ASRM for at least one year prior to nomination for the Award.

Selection of the Award recipient is made by the Executive Committee of the ASRM and is based primarily on the candidate’s record of achievement and recognition as an outstanding teacher and mentor at the institutional, local, regional, national or international level. Sustained achievement in the fields of professional, scientific and/or patient education is an important consideration in selection for the award.

The recipient will be recognized as the recipient of the Kavoussi Family Outstanding Teacher Award by presentation of a plaque at the ASRM Scientific Congress & Expo. In addition, the recipient will be provided with free registration for the Scientific Congress, roundtrip economy airfare, and up to $800 for two days accommodations in the ASRM hotel room block, meals and ground transportation.

Congratulations to the 2022 Kavoussi Family Outstanding Teacher Award Recipient

The Kavoussi Family Outstanding Teacher Award goes to Larry I. Lipshultz, MD. Dr. Lipshultz is Professor of Urology and Chief of the Scott Department of Urology’s Division of Male Reproductive Medicine and Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. Dr. Lipshultz, who holds the Lester and Sue Smith Chair in Reproductive Medicine, is a well-known authority on abnormalities of male reproduction, erectile dysfunction, and male hormone therapy. He completed his medical training and urology residency at the University of Pennsylvania and was the first American Urological Association (AUA) research scholar. He is a member of the American Association of Genitourinary Surgeons, a founder of the Society for the Study of Male Reproduction and the American Society of Andrology, and he is the second urologist elected President of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine.

Dr. Lipshultz has been an active member of the AUA and ASRM throughout his career. In 2010 he was honored by the AUA as “one of the most respected surgeon scientists and mentors in Urology.” He received the ASRM Service Award in 2011, the AUA’s Hugh Hampton Young Award in 2005, the F. Brantley Scott Award of Excellence in 2015, and the American Association of Genitourinary Surgeons Spence Award for outstanding lifetime achievements in urology in 2022. He has published more than 440 journal articles, edited over 10 books, and has instituted a fellowship training program in male reproductive medicine and surgery that has trained more than 120 physicians, who are now in practice both here and abroad.
