ASRM Launches National Campaign in Support of Reproductive Rights Ballot Measures

October 14, 2024
For immediate release

Washington, DC – The American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) announced today that it is launching a major effort to support reproductive rights ballot measures that will be on the ballot in 10 states on November 5. Elements of the campaign include broadcast ads, online promotions, formal endorsements, and initiatives connecting ASRM members from around the country directly to fellow voters.

Voters in ten states will have the opportunity to weigh in on reproductive rights-related ballot measures on election day. Since the 2022 Dobbs decision, voters have consistently voted in favor of protecting abortion access and reproductive healthcare.  We have seen anti-choice politicians and groups, fearful of this national groundswell of support for reproductive freedom, mount efforts at deception, obfuscation, and intimidation in many of these states.

“ASRM and its members want to send a very clear message: we will not sit idly by while politicians seek to come between us and our patients. Given the stakes and the onslaught of misinformation and anti-democratic tactics from opponents, we have no choice but to be actively involved.  As we have with every reproductive-related ballot measure since the dangerous Dobbs decision, we intend to fight, and we intend to win,” said Sean Tipton, Chief Advocacy and Policy Officer for ASRM.

The Office of Public Affairs is offering the following activities to ASRM members attending the Annual Congress & Expo in Denver:

  • Opportunities to engage with voters in states where reproductive rights are on the ballot
  • A policy update from the Office of Public Affairs in the Spotlight Theater (Monday, October 21 at 1:30 p.m.)
  • A Spotlight Theater presentation from the inaugural PRIMED Cohort (Tuesday, October 22 at 10 a.m.) and the chance to learn more and apply for 2025
  • A celebration of the passage of the new California IVF insurance mandate, bringing the total number of Americans with improved coverage to 60 million, in the Spotlight Theater at 12:20 following the PRIMED Cohort’s presentation

For almost a century, the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) has been the global leader in multidisciplinary reproductive medicine research, ethical practice, and education. ASRM impacts reproductive care and science worldwide by creating funding opportunities for advancing reproduction research and discovery, by providing evidence-based education and public health information, and by advocating for reproductive health care professionals and the patients they serve. With members in more than 100 countries, the Society is headquartered in Washington, DC, with additional operations in Birmingham, AL. www.asrm.org
